Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States. It is observed on the last Monday of May. Did you know that the "l" sound at the end of a word or syllable, as in "Memorial", is made differently than the "l" sound at the beginning? The "l" sound at the beginning of a word or syllable, as in "love", is made with the tip of the tongue touching behind the upper front teeth. The "l" sound at the end of a word or syllable, as in "Memorial" (called a "dark /l/") is made with the back of the tongue shaping the sound, somewhat similar to a vowel sound like "o". The tongue tip doesn't touch anywhere.
